To the Editor:

I wanted to take this opportunity to let the community know what a great honor it is for another young girl to get her Girl Scout Gold Award.

It takes many years of dedication and a love for what you are a part of to achieve the highest award in Scouting.  There are not too many girls who make it to the end of this long journey.  There have only been 14 girls that have achieved this award, in Hertford County, in the past 30 years.  Those special young women are Harriet Oliver Byrum, Samantha Smith Dunlow, Catherine Pierce, Anne Glick, Jennifer Byrd, Cara Lahti Zupancic, Britt Adams Causey, Jennifer Davenport, Katherine Glick, Tiffany Harrell Riddick, Chassidy Hall Kiser, Susan Hunnicutt Nyguen, Leanne Stroud Copeland and Hillary Lassiter Lynn.  Cathy Smith Stroud Piland earned the 1st Class Cadette Award in 1977, which later became the Gold Award.

The last Gold Award ceremony was in 2001.

Please take this opportunity to let Elizabeth Brinkley, daughter of Doug & Susan Brinkley, of Ahoskie, know how proud you are of her achievement.  Certificates and cards are always welcome.

If you would live to make a special presentation, at her Gold Award Ceremony on November 28th, please contact her parents.
