MAPLETON – Hollie J. Vaughan, 86 of Mapleton departed this earthly life on February 9, 2013 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. She was born October 22, 1926 to the late Hersey and Beatrice Gatling Jenkins in Hertford County.
She was a member of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church where she was a Missionary, taught Sunday School and was in the Senior Choir. Ms. Vaughan was also an Eastern Star and was a very active member on the Murfreesboro Volunteer Rescue Squad. She retired as a teacher assistant with Hertford County Schools.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her three sons, Bruce Lee of Richmond, VA, Thornton Vaughan, Jr. of Mapleton, and Sheriff Juan Vaughan Sr. of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Wanda Lee of Beverly Hills, FL and Novella Applewhite of Greenville; a brother, James Jenkins of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, R’Dell Speller of Mapleton and Yvonne Manley of Mapleton; 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. by the Rev. Fernando Temple at Hertford County High School. Viewing will be held at Parkers Grove Baptist Church from 6-8pm. Burial will follow in Gatling Family Cemetery.
