After an even first quarter, Northampton exploded for 13 unanswered as part of a 20-2 second quarter run.

Williams hit the first three shots of the second period – two field goals and a triple – to break open a 6-all tie and push Northampton East ahead 13-6.

Jameka Deloatch then added back-to-back buckets for the Lady Rams before Dajenique Daye scored to make it 19-6.

Ivey Little broke the scoring drought for Northeast with a  pair of free throws at the 2:05 mark, but Daye had a three-pointer and a deuce back-to-back before Shoulders scored to make it 26-8 at the intermission.

Little started the third quarter with a hoop for the Lady Eagles and was followed by a bucket from Kalen Rose as Northeast closed the gap to 26-12.

Northampton, however, controlled the remainder of the third period as they outscored their visitors 11-1. Shoulders led the way for the Lady Rams with eight of those 11 points while Daye and Williams also scored.

The lone score for Northeast was a Little free throw.

The fourth quarter, however, was won by the Lady Eagles as they outscored Northampton-East 14-8.

The final period started with a Hannah Roye bucket, which was answered quickly by a hoop from Makia Langford from Northampton-East.

Liverman and Shakira Anderson then exchanged buckets before Rose and Shoulders did the same thing, leaving the score at 43-19.

A pair of free throws by Rose and a three-point play by Liverman, however, boosted the Lady Eagles to 43-24 before a hoop by Williams.

The Lady Eagles, however, outscored Northampton 7-1 the rest of the way getting scores from Taylor Morris, Liverman, Roye and Little.

In addition to those in double figures, the Lady Rams got nine from Daye, seven from Deloatch and two each from Langford and Anderson.

Little scored seven for Northeast while Rose added six and Roye had four. Morris kicked in three points and Taylor Cocke added two.

The beginning of the game was a close one with Northeast scoring first on a Liverman hoop only to see Northampton-East score the next four points thanks to Williams and Deloatch.

Cocke and Liverman, however, boosted the Lady Eagles back into the lead at 6-4 before Deloatch closed the quarter with a bucket that tied the game at 6-all.

Northeast Academy will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Tarheel Independent Conference rival Lawrence Academy while Northampton-East will play again Wednesday at Roanoke Rapids. The girls-only contest will begin at 6 p.m.
