JACKSON – Cory Jackson, who was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon last week, is no longer employed by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Wardie P. Vincent confirmed to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that the former lieutenant’s employment with his office was terminated on Monday.

“He was placed on administrative leave and taken off the road once the allegations in the incident came about,” Vincent said.

Vincent added he evaluated the situation following the recent trial and as a result of the outcome of that legal proceeding, Jackson was terminated from the Sheriff’s Office.

He said Jackson was with the Sheriff’s Office for 10 years and during that time he was a good employee.

On March 7, Judge W. Turner Stephenson found Jackson guilty on the assault with a deadly weapon charge and not guilty for false imprisonment which he was also charged with.

During the Jan. 15, 2012 incident Jackson fired his gun at a male victim and allegedly “unlawfully restrained and detained” him. Jackson was responding to a call about suspicious persons in a neighborhood in Garysburg at the time of the incident.

Stephenson sentenced Jackson to a 30 -day imprisonment, which was suspended for 12 months of unsupervised probation.

Jackson’s attorney gave immediate notice of appeal to Superior Court.
