MERRY HILL – Ridgecroft School earned Tarheel Independent Conference victory number two here Friday night.
The Lady Rams’ varsity basketball team knocked off host Lawrence Academy 53-17 in the TIC affair.
Miller Bryant led the Rams with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Senior Brice Harrison 10 points in the first quarter enroute to a 14-point night.
The Rams scored the first eight points of the quarter and led 22-2 after one period of play.
Hennie Larabee started the scoring with a bucket at the seven-minute mark. She was followed by hoops from Bryant and Harrison. Larabee and Bryant then each added a free throw to make it 8-0.
Lawrence’s Hallie Corbett stopped the spurt with a hoop for the Lady Warriors at the 4:55 mark of the quarter, but it was the only score of the period for the home team.
Ridgecroft scored 14 unanswered over the final four minutes of the period, with Harrison accounting for eight of those – including six in a row. Lauren Colson also added four points during the run while Bryant added the other two.
The Lady Warriors opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws from Hayden Thompson as they closed to 22-4, but Harrison had the next two buckets as Ridgecroft grabbed a 26-4 edge with 4:05 to play in the second quarter.
Corbett again scored from the floor for the Warriors, but Ridgecroft got a Larabee bucket to go with a pair of free throws from Colson as they took a 30-6 edge into the halftime locker room.
The second half started with the Lady Rams rolling off 13 unanswered points. Larabee and Bryant were the main catalysts on the run while Elexa Brown also scored for Ridgecroft as they took a 43-6 lead.
Lawrence scored the next six straight with Thompson accounting for four and Holly McNair adding two as they closed within 43-12.
Ridgecroft closed the quarter with a Bryant bucket to lead 45-12 after three periods.
McNair scored on old-fashioned three-point play to start the fourth quarter as Lawrence closed within 45-15, but Colson and Bryant scored back-to-back hoops for the Rams.
Thompson then scored for Lawrence before Brown and Elizabeth Joyner closed out the scoring for Ridgecroft.
The win boosts the Lady Rams to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Tarheel Independent Conference. Lawrence dropped to 0-2 in the league.
The Lady Warriors will be back on the court tonight (Tuesday) when they host Columbia High School while Ridgecroft will be out of action until the Greater Lasker Shootout after Christmas.
