MURFREESBORO – Mamie Ruth Vaughan Witherspoon departed this life on April 6, 2013. She was 61.

There will be a public viewing at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. A funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 12 noon at Nebo Baptist Church. Interment will be in Carver’s Park Cemetery in Murfreesboro.

Mamie was the daughter of Mr. Elijah Vaughan and the late Mrs. Dora Bishop Vaughan. She was a devoted member of Nebo Baptist Church. She was a retired Hertford County Tax Office employee.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Sylvester Witherspoon Sr. of the son; sons Sylvester Witherspoon Jr. (Shawanda) of Roanoke Rapids, and Antwine Burdett (Tynesse) of Boston, MA; a daughter, Tatanisha Ann Porter of Boston, MA; her father, Mr. Elijah Vaughan of Murfreesboro; and brothers, Gregory Vaughan (Letta) of Boston, MA, Elijah Vaughan Jr. of Maryland, Matthew Vaughan of Boston, MA, Daniel Vaughan of Hampton, VA, and Paul Vaughan of Germany.

Mamie was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Dora Vaughan; a brother, Harry Vaughan; and a sister, Dorothy Vaughan.

She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
