MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University football team will play their annual Blue-White scrimmage on Friday evening, April 26^th under the lights at Jim Garrison Stadium at 8 p.m.

The Blue-White scrimmage concludes the team’s spring practice season.

The Hawks are coming off one of the most successful seasons in recent history.  The 2012 team surpassed expectations in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) after ending their season with a 5-2 record in league play good for a 2^nd place finish in the Northern Division after being picked to finish 5^th.  The Hawks also enjoyed their first winning season since 1999 with a 6-4 overall record.

Anticipation and expectation will be even higher for the 2013 season which kicks off at 12 noon on September 9^th in Charlotte, NC at McColl-Richardson Stadium against the UNC-Charlotte 49ers who are playing their inaugural season of college football. The first home game is set for 12 noon on September 14^th at Garrison Stadium against Alderson-Broaddus. Other home games include Shaw University, Elizabeth City State University, and Virginia State University.

“It’ll basically be our 15^th practice,” said head coach Tim Place, who will be finishing his sixth pre-season. “It won’t be a true game but we’ll have an inside period with some one-on-ones, a seven-on-seven drill for the linemen, four series’ of situational football and finish with a 20 minute running clock.

“I want to see us compete,” he added. “We need to finish what we started on April first by playing hard, smart, fast, and getting better.”

April 26^th will be a great opportunity for the public to catch the Hawks in action and get a preview of the upcoming fall season.
