AHOSKIE – Mrs. Ruby Martin Baker, age 85, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at VidantRoanoke-ChowanHospital in Ahoskie.
Mrs. Baker was a native of Northampton County, born to the late Curtis and Mary Odom Martin. She was a member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church and was employed in the sewing industry for years. Known for always having a smile on her face, Mrs. Baker enjoyed working in her yard and attending to her flower beds. Her love extended beyond family and grandchildren, to include neighbors and all those that knew her.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Baker was predeceased by her loving husband, William Earl Baker, Sr, and her siblings.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter, Linda Meeks and husband Wayne of Ahoskie; daughter, Nancy Conner and husband James of Glen St. Mary, FL; son, Billy Baker and wife Judy of Ahoskie; daughter, Mary Lou Byrum and husband Mitch of Ahoskie; her beloved companion Snoopy, her grandchildren, Missy Meeks Roberson and husband Brad of Windsor, Allyson Meeks of Murfreesboro, Toni Meeks and friend Don Rowell of Ahoskie, Billie Jo “BJ” Ivey and husband Sam of Ahoskie, Crystal Lassiter and husband Michael of Ahoskie, and Kelly Baker of Ahoskie, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the homes of the children. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie. Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.
