AHOSKIE – The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald Holiday Classic sponsored by United Country Joe Murray Realty has been forced into yet another change.

The tournament, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) will now begin at 5 p.m. This change came about because of the decision of Gates County Schools’ officials to not allow their teams to travel to Hertford County High School for the event.

Because of the change, Bertie High School’s girls will meet Northampton County High School East at 5 p.m. The same schools will then play at 6:30 p.m. in a varsity boys matchup.

The winners of those two games will move to Friday’s championship games against Hertford County High School. The girl’s title game will be played at 5 p.m. and the boys will follow at 6:30 p.m.

“We regret the change in schedule, especially at the last minute,” HCHS Athletic Director Charles Simmons said. “Unfortunately, the decision was beyond our control.”
