AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School continued its perfect streak in the Tarheel Independent Conference here Wednesday.

The Lady Rams used balanced scoring to top Albemarle School 40-16 and improve to 8-2 overall and remain unbeaten in the TIC at 3-0.

Miller Bryant led the way with a dozen points while Brice Harrison and Lauren Colson pitched in eight each. Hennie Larabee added six. Shanna Staples led the Lady Colts with five points.

“The girls did well coming off a long break,” Ridgecroft basketball boss Susan Oliver said. “We made good passes against their zone. We played well together, especially on defense.”

The Lady Rams wasted no time taking control Wednesday as they raced out to a 9-0 lead.

Bryant started the game with a hoop that was followed by a free throw and field goal off the hands of Larabee. Colson added a hoop and then Bryant had a pair of free throws to establish the 9-0 lead.

Albemarle finally scored when Staples had a free throw.

Colson and Elizabeth Joyner then added back-to-back hoops to make it 13-1 before an Ashley Ownley hoop got the Colts within 13-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Harrison scored for the first time to open the second period and then, after a Staples free throw, she hit another shot as the Lady Rams pulled ahead 17-4.

Colson then had a field goal and two free throws before a Sara Hackney bucket that made it 23-4 late in the first half.

Staples hit a three-pointer before the second quarter ended, but Ridgecroft took a 23-7 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Bryant stated the third quarter with back-to-back hoops as Ridgecroft garnered a 27-7 advantage.

Albemarle’s best scoring came over the rest of the third quarter when they out-paced the Rams 6-2. Amber Sickle had two hoops for the Lady Colts and Shelby Erps added one answered only by a Harrison bucket for the Rams.

Ridgecroft led 29-13 after three quarters.

Bryant again scored the opening buckets of the quarter as the fourth period started and then Larabee scored from behind the arc to make it 36-13.

Harrison added another hoop to make it 38-13 before Hanna Alexapoulas scored a triple to close the gap to 38-16.

The game ended on an Alexa Brown hoop that established the final score.

The Lady Rams met league rival Northeast Academy Friday night in a game that finished too late for press time. They will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Hobgood Academy.
