JACKSON – A Roanoke Rapids man is behind bars here, held under a $350,000 bond, charged with statutory rape and indecent liberties with a minor.
Tevin McWilliams, 21, was scheduled to appear in Northampton County District Court yesterday (Monday) to answer to the charges.
McWilliams was arrested Sunday after Northampton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on East Jefferson Street in Jackson at around 6:30 a.m.
NCSO Sgt. Antwone Johnson and Deputy Kenny Melton arrived at the residence at which time they spoke with the victim’s mother. She told the two officers that when she arrived home from work Sunday morning, she discovered a male in the bedroom of her 14-year-old daughter. The mother then contacted law enforcement to report the incident.
Investigator Courtney Williams was contacted and began his investigation, learning that McWilliams was the male the mother caught in the teen’s bedroom. McWilliams was at the residence when Northampton Sheriff’s deputies arrived.
It was not immediately known if the victim and the suspect were prior acquaintances.
According to NCSO officials, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
