Gates County Sheriff Ed Webb said 25-year-old Cassius Quamanie Norfleet of Cooper Road, Sunbury, was observed as a front seat passenger in a vehicle that was stuck in traffic at the accident scene.

Norfleet was the last of three suspects wanted by the Suffolk Police Department in connection with the Dec. 17, 2012 murder of William Kendale Jordan at his home in that Virginia city.

“We’re very familiar with that case,” said Webb, adding that the other two suspects in the murder were both from Sunbury – Akeem Deshawn Lee Lassiter and Michael Jamil Eason. Those two were previously arrested and found guilty in the case.

“We knew that the Suffolk Police had a felony murder arrest warrant, along with other charges, on Mr. Norfleet. We’ve been trying to locate him here in Gates County,” Webb added.

On Monday, Webb and his officers caught a break. As GCSO Chief Deputy Randy Hathaway and others were handling the traffic at the accident scene, Hathaway noted Norfleet as a passenger in a vehicle.

“Chief Hathaway yelled at the driver of that vehicle to pull over on the shoulder of the road,” Webb said. “The driver attempted to speed off, but was bottled up in traffic and my deputies were able to surround the vehicle and arrest Mr. Norfleet without incident.”

In addition to the first degree murder charge, Norfleet has also be indicted for the use of a firearm in a statutory burglary, statutory burglary while armed, possession of a gun by a non-violent felon, conspiracy to commit robbery, shoot, stab, cut or wound, use of a firearm in attempted robbery, and attempted robbery. He is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
