GARYSBURG – A Northampton County teen attempting to elude arrest was found in possession of drugs and a handgun after he was apprehended.
On Jan. 17, Northampton County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jamison Jelont’e Lee, 17, of Garysburg. The responding deputies learned that Lee had been involved in a physical altercation and they attempted to detain him, he fled. A short foot chase ensued and Lee was apprehended by Officer D. Carter and Lt. A. Thomas.
During the apprehension of Lee, a handgun was found along with what appeared to be marijuana. A digital scale was also found.
Lee was taken into custody and charged with simple possession of marijuana, simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a minor. He was placed into the Northampton County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond and given a Feb.17 court date.
“We recommend that people try to resolve their differences in a more peaceful manner,” said Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith in regards to the altercation. “It was also sad to know that a 17-year-old can have access to or possess a firearm, especially during a physical confrontation. Fortunately, the two deputies were present to intervene and keep anyone from getting seriously injured or even worse killed. I certainly commend my deputies for their quick response to the incident.”
