Lawrence Academy remains undefeated.

The Lady Warriors won matches eight and nine this season with wins at Rocky Mount Wednesday and at Terra Ceia Thursday.

On Wednesday, Lawrence defeated Rocky Mount 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17 despite having three girls playing sick and another injured.

“Jennifer White helped us defensively with seven blocks today,” said Lawrence Head Coach Dr. Ed Clouse. “We were also able to dictate our offense due to another superb serving performance by all.”

Taylor Sexton led Lawrence with 20 assists during the afternoon and also added two aces and two kills. Ashtyn Mizelle had six digs, five kills and three aces on the afternoon while White added 10 digs and six kills to her seven blocks.

Ashton Lyle had three kills, three digs and three aces while Casey Belch checked in with eight digs and two kills. Melissa White added four aces and three kills.

A day later, the Lady Warriors were back in Tarheel Independent Conference play as they went to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the league with a four-set win over Terra Ceia Christian School. Lawrence won 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.

“We are literally sick and tired,” Dr. Clouse said. “Three girls are getting over colds and this was our third match in three days.

“Terra Ceia played the match with great intensity and pushed us to our limits,” he added. “Our next game will be at Hobgood Tuesday.”

Melissa White paced another solid serving with 100 percent on the day including 16 service points. Casey Belch had 18 service points and added eight digs during the afternoon.

Ashton Lyle had seven kills, six blocks and four digs for the afternoon while Ashtyn Mizelle recorded 14 aces and 10 kills. Taylor Sexton had 18 assists for the afternoon and five digs.

Jennifer White added three blocks.

The Lady Warriors will travel to Hobgood Academy today (Tuesday) for a 4 p.m. matchup. The matchup will be an important one as both teams enter the contest undefeated, atop the TIC and state-ranked.

Lawrence Academy suffered a setback at the hands of Rocky Mount on Wednesday, but bounced back to take a straight-set win over Terra Ceia.

The first match, the Lady Warriors fell 25-19 and 25-17.

On Thursday, Lawrence took out Terra Ceia 25-19 and 25-20 to move to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the TIC.

“This was the first full match that we finally put it all together and played as a team,” Dr. Clouse said. “I am proud of them for their effort.”

Kim Northcott led the Lady Warriors with five assists and four aces while Holly McNair had four aces and four kills. Givovanna Conigliaro added four aces and one kill while Chelsea Ginn and Jordan Lyle each had three aces.
