AHOSKIE – One week removed from surrendering the most single-game points in school history, it was Hertford County’s turn to take someone behind the proverbial wood shed and administered an old-fashioned whipping.

Senior quarterback Christian Folston (9-of-11 passing with no interceptions) threw for 279 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first half, as the Bears crushed visiting Southern Vance, 47-0, here Friday night in a non-conference football clash.

With the win, HCHS snapped a two-game slide and evened their record at 2-2 as they now set their sights on next Friday’s outing at Class 4A heavyweight South Central. Southern Vance fell to 1-3 overall.

The 47-0 finale was the identical score at halftime. As things turned out, the victory was claimed less than 30 seconds after the game’s opening kick-off, even before the fans could settle into their seats.

After Southern Vance lost a fumble on the game’s opening play, recovered by Andrew New, at their own 21 yardline, it took the Bears only one snap to score when Folston tossed a 21-yard TD pass to Jaquarii Roberson. Folston then threw the conversion pass to Dunyasha Porter and the Bears were up quickly, leading 8-0 with the game only 22 seconds old.

Folston went on to add two additional scoring passes in the opening 12 minutes – 57 yards to Roberson and eight yards to Evan Simmons. Noah Parker booted one of his two PAT tries, as the Bears led 21-zip after one quarter.

The rout was really on in the second quarter where the Bears scored four times – two on the ground and two through the air.

Folston’s 77-yard TD bomb to Simmons opened the second quarter scoring blitz. Two and a half minutes later, a blocked punt by HCHS defender Da’Andre Beverly allowed the Bears to set-up offensively at the Raiders two yardline. From there, Kyeem Perry scored two plays later as HCHS extended its lead to 34-0 with 7:20 left in the second period.

Perry added a 43-yard scoring scamper a little over three minutes later and the Bears closed out the half on a 53-yard TD pass from Folston to Roberson.

The game clock ran without interruption during the second half while HCHS coach Terrance Saxby used his second and third team players.

HCHS finished the game with 380 yards of total offense. Perry led the ground game with 77 yards on just seven carries. Southern Vance was limited to 149 total yards, including only a net gain of two rushing yards.
