Lady Eagles make it two straight

MURFREESBORO – Northeast Academy made it two straight.
The Lady Eagles’ tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over Hertford County High School September 3 to claim back-to-back victories and run their season record to 2-1.
Northeast fifth-seed Haley Jones took the biggest victory of the afternoon with an 8-0 win over Tyler Christian.
Lady Eagles’ second seed Taylor Cocke scored an 8-3 win over Heaven Rushing while third-seeded Kalan Rose defeated Brittany Pierce by the same score.
Kelsey Futrell, the top-seed for Northeast, edged Hertford County’s Bria Freeman 8-6 in the battle of top seeds while sixth-seeded Ivey Little knocked off Tierra Watson by the same count.
The final singles win came at number four where Northeast’s Ashton Liverman topped Yvonne Harris 8-4.
In doubles action, Kelsey Futrell and Rose defeated Freeman and Rushing by a count of 8-5 in the top-seed contest. At number two, Cocke and Liverman defeated Harris and Christian 8-0.
Hannah Woodard and Little defeated Pierce and Courtney Malone 8-1 in the final doubles matchup.
Northeast will be back in action today (Tuesday) when they host Lawrence Academy in Jackson. Hertford County will host Currituck County High School today as well.
