CONWAY – They say you haven’t been anywhere until you get back home; then again, four games was a long time to wait.

Halloween night-2014 was the last time Northampton County High played a home football game at Roy Lowry Stadium in Conway, and they seemed to have made things just as “spooky” for their fans Friday night.

Despite a penalty-plagued first half the Jaguars still had enough moxie with four scores in the second half to crush Southeast Halifax 35-6 for Northampton’s third straight win.

Not the best way to treat your house guests.

The Jaguars scored on the last play of the first quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run by Montrell Squire that capped an eight-play 50 yard drive. He also ran in the extra point for an 8-0 Northampton lead.

The Jags got their next score on a safety when Southeast quarterback Christopher Vincent was tackled in the end zone by Northampton’s James Gray making it 10-0 and that score held through to halftime.

In the third quarter, Northampton got the ball first and went on a four-play 70 yard drive, most of it on the fleet feet of quarterback Ja’Quan Buffaloe, who broke to the outside and scampered 56 yards to the end zone.  The two-point conversion was stopped, but the Jaguars held a 16-0 edge.

Southeast got their only score on the next series when Joshua Godwyn went 20 yards for six points and the Trojan deficit was 10 points, 16-6 with 6:01 left in the third.

Still in the third quarter, Buffaloe got his second touchdown of the night, an 18-yard run.  It was another Jaquan – Copeland – who booted through the extra point to make it 23-6 headed to the fourth quarter.

In the final frame the Big Cats got their fourth touchdown when William Cumbo plunged over from six yards out to cap a 30-yard drive after the Trojans’ fake-punt failed.  That score made it 29-6.

The final TD of the night came with under four minutes left when Derrias Gray picked Vincent at the Southeast 37 and six plays later Arcellous Valentine poked the pigskin into the end zone and the Jags could celebrate three-for-three.

Two Jags runners went over the century mark in rushing: Squire had 13 rushes for 112, while Cumbo ran it 15 times for 103 yards.

Northampton had 416 yards total offense on the night: 374 on the ground and 42 through the air.

Southeast had 68 yards total offense thanks to the stingy Jaguars defense.

Northampton draws another Halifax squad – this time: Northwest – next week, also at Lowry, as they try to go four for four.
