WINDSOR – Two Aulander men remain behind bars today after a huge amount of heroin was seized during a traffic stop.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said the arrest was the result of an investigation that began two weeks ago by the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Gang Unit.

According to Holley, his office received information from the public and began an investigation of Edmund O’Brien Acree of Aulander for selling heroin.

On Feb. 11 agents were able to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Acree was a passenger. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christopher Reason, also of Aulander.

As a result of the investigation, 100 dosage units of heroin were seized with a street value of approximately $1,000.

Acree is charged with one count of felony possession of heroin, one count of the sale and delivery of heroin, and one count of possession with

intent to manufacture, sell and distribute heroin. His court date was Feb. 16 and he sits in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under $250,000 bond.

Reason has been charged with one count of felony possession of heroin and one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute heroin. Following his court date on Feb. 16 he is also incarcerated in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under $150,000 bond.

Detective Matt Roebuck, FBI Task Force Officer with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Gang Unit, headed up the investigation.

“They spent and worked long hours on this case,” said Holley. “We’re very proud of their efforts.”
