MURFREESBORO – Janet Martin Hill, 92, formally of Murfreesboro and more recently of The Laurels of Forest Glen in Garner, NC, passed away February 22, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Boyette Hill; parents, Bealie Martin, Sr. and Madie Allen Martin; and brothers, Stanley Martin and Bealie Martin, Jr.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a friend to all, always wanting to do for others and make people happy.

Mrs. Hill was married to the late Chester B. Hill and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. She worked beside her husband at Chet’s Market for 54 years until his death, and then continued with a Flower and Gift Shop for seven more years. Her specialty was making bows.

She was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church. For many years she worked with the Hertford County Board of Elections as a Registrar in Murfreesboro, and also enjoyed volunteering at Ahoskie’s Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Cynthia Hill Barkley (Jerry) of Raleigh; son, Chester B. Hill, Jr. (Cathie) of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Anthony Barkley (Jennifer) of Apex, Sherry B. Outland (Brian) of Crestwood, KY, Dr. Melissa H. Wheeler (Ryan) of San Diego, CA, and Marti Hill of Mooresville; and seven great-grandchildren, Allison, Logan and Aaron Barkley; Sarah, Ty and Trey Outland; and Bryce Wheeler. She also has three sisters, Cleo White of Seaboard, Maudie Leigh McClain of Greensboro, and Jewel Britt of Milwaukee; two brothers, Bruce Martin of Roanoke Rapids, and Bobby Martin of Milwaukee along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Murfreesboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Canipe officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

A special thanks to the staff at Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi where she lived for 7 years.
