AHOSKIE, NC – Elsie “Juanita” Benton Johnson, age 80, formerly of Woodland, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Creekside Care & Rehabilitation Center of Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Johnson was born on October 13, 1935 in Gates County, NC, the daughter of the late Marvin and Pauline Benton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friends with all and worked hard all her life. Her last employment included many years working with the Golden Skillet of Ahoskie and The Corner Shop in St. John’s. She was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Johnson,

Elsie is survived by two sons, Ricky Perry (Wanda) and James “Jamie” Johnson; and one daughter, Vickie Harrell (Kyle), all of Ahoskie; and two granddaughters, CJ Perry Woods (Matt) of Miami, FL and Katelyn Harrell of Ayden, NC. Also surviving are one sister, Shirley Smith; and two brothers, JE Benton and Wayne Benton, all of Ahoskie; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, and other times at her son’s home, Ricky Perry, 137 McCaskey Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, NC, with the Rev. Tony Futrell of Oxford, NC officiating.
