Shooting nets arrest

AHOSKIE – An Ahoskie man is behind bars in the Hertford County Jail after shooting a man while he mowed the grass on his property here Wednesday.
Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported that 22-year-old Ra’hem Jamal Lassiter of 301 NC 561 East, Ahoskie, was arrested and charged in the case.
Fitzhugh said that at around 2:19 p.m. on June 1, the victim was cutting the grass on his property in the area of First and Mitchell streets.
“He (the victim) observed a few guys sitting on a porch at a residence next to his property,” Fitzhugh said. “One of the males picked up a weapon, later identified as a pellet gun, and shot and struck the victim in his arm.”
Fitzhugh added that the victim had to have the pellet surgically removed.
APD Detective Sergeant Stephen White and Investigator Justin Farmer were assigned to the case and handled the investigation and ensuing arrest.
Fitzhugh added that the shooting was the second of the day. The first one was reported at 12:24 p.m. in the area of Alton and Mitchell streets.
“No one was hurt, and no property damage was reported. We did locate the car involved, and are still investigating that incident,” Fitzhugh said.
White and Farmer are also handling that investigation.
Other staff and officers were on the scenes of both shootings to assist.
