BEAR GRASS – Area-One’s hottest junior American Legion team continued on a roll with their eighth win in a row.

Bear Grass topped Windsor Post 37 here Monday 7-4 for their third straight home win.

Ethan Hughson was two-for-three and scored a run while Miller Trowell was two-for-four and drove in a pair of runs. Trowell, however, also took the loss on the mound as he gave up eight hits with the seven runs while striking out five.

“I think we really squandered a good pitching performance by Miller,” said Windsor coach Bobby Harmon. “That’s back-to-back good outings by him and we just did a poor job neutralizing their base stealing and bunting. We have to correct the small things and keep working hard.”

Windsor got on the scoreboard first when Daquan Wilson doubled in the top of the first inning. Trenton White and Miller Trowell followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Two outs later, Brandon Roberson doubled to left field scoring Wilson and White, but that was all Post 37 could muster for a 2-0 lead after a half-inning.

Bear Grass quickly responded by tying the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to make it 2-2 after one complete.

Windsor put two more up on the board in the top of the second as Hughson opened with a one-out single. After Wilson walked, White sacrificed both runners into scoring position. Miller Trowell followed with a base hit up the middle that scored both and staked the Rebels to a 4-2 lead.

Bear Grass got a single run in the bottom of the second and another run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 4-4.

From there it was a pitching duel between Miller Trowell and Bear Grass’ Jordan Leggett, with Leggett getting the upper hand in keeping Post 37 off the scoreboard.

Bear Grass got to Miller Trowell in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs to secure the win.

Windsor fell to 5-7 overall with their fifth loss in their last six games, and slipped to 3-4 in conference play before their non-conference game with Perquimans on Tuesday and Wednesday’s game in Elizabeth City against Albemarle.
