AHOSKIE – Roy Nelson Joyner, age 72, of Ahoskie, passed away on June 25, 2016 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Roy was born on May 22, 1944 to the late William and Ruth Britton Joyner in the St. John area of Hertford County, NC. Roy worked as a television repairman for many years, starting out with his brother on Main Street, Ahoskie, with Joyner’s TV, before opening up a shop in Aulander known as Roy’s TV. His love of music gave him the ability to play most any instrument that was placed before him. As all of Roy’s family and friends knew, he loved to talk, he loved to laugh, and never met a stranger. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Roy also enjoyed fishing. His son-in-law, Tommy, was his right hand man, would do anything he ask him to do for him, including giving him his insulin shot every day. He will be truly missed by all those that knew him.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William “Billy” Joyner.

Roy is survived by his wife, Angie; his daughter, Stefanie Joyner Horton and her husband Tommy and their children, Ashlyn Nicole and Noah Paul Horton, all of Ahoskie; his son, Daniel Nelson Joyner and his wife Caitlyn, and their children, Callie Rebecca and Carson Michael Joyner, all of High Point, NC; his first wife, Melba Phillips and her husband Mike of Burlington, NC; a sister, Eloise Belch of Ahoskie; and four brothers, Eugene Joyner and his wife Mary of Richmond, VA, James “Jimmy” Joyner and his wife Linda of Hampton, VA, Julian Joyner and his wife Blonnie of Ahoskie, and Hunter Joyner of Ahoskie. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Pam Collier and Amy Clements; a step-son, Julian Earl Odom; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his canine friends, Gracie, and his favorite grand-dog, Chloe.
