Christmas in Bertie

The following Christmas-themed events are planned in December at various locations in Bertie County:

AULANDER

The Aulander Ruritan Club’s 6th annual “Gym”boree Vendors & Crafters Show will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 in the gym at 204 Rice Avenue in Aulander.

Admission is free

In addition to vendors and crafters, there will be a silent auction, cake walks, and bake sale. Concessions will be offered for sale.

With 44 vendors and crafters, there will be gifts for everyone on your Christmas list. The unique and exclusive gifts include Christmas and home décor, children’s books, crafts, jewelry, canned & baked goods, clothing, accessories, woodwork, art and much more.

Proceeds will help fund the local club’s many community service projects throughout the year .

The Town of Aulander Christmas Parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Line-up is at 1 p.m.

Those wishing to have an entry into the parade are required to fill out a form, available at the Aulander Town Hall, and turn it in before Dec. 5.

COLERAIN

The annual Colerain Christmas Parade will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The town is seeking participation from schools, bands, civic groups, churches and others to provide entries into the parade. All entries are required to have a Christmas theme and be appropriate for all ages.

HOPE PLANTATION

Christmas Open House at Hope Plantation (both the Hope mansion and King Bazemore House will be open) is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.

Each house will be adorned with period decorations. There will be live holiday music, refreshments, and horse and wagon/carriage rides.  Performers in period costumes will be dancing and playing games of the era.

There is no charge but donations are appreciated.

ROXOBEL

The town of Roxobel will host a Celebration of Christmas at the Roxobel Fire Station on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The event will feature the lighting of the town’s Christmas Tree, singing of Christmas carols, and a visit from Santa.  The public is invited to begin gathering around the tree, which will be located to the right of the Roxobel Fire Station, at 4:30 p.m.

Cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee will be available.

At around 5 p.m., Roxobel Mayor Alvin Simmons will say a few words and give the invocation prior to the tree lighting.

After the tree lighting, there will be a special visitor for the young, and the young at heart, and a photographer will be available, for a small fee, to take pictures.

Town officials are asking that people please not park their cars on the side of the street next to the fire station and that those needing a chair, please bring their own.

WINDSOR

The annual Windsor Christmas parade will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The Town’s Christmas Tree will be officially lit during a 6 p.m. ceremony on Friday, Dec. 9. “Christmas in the Streets” in Windsor will precede the tree lighting at 5 p.m.
