MURFREESBORO – Patricia Britt-Edwards, beloved mother, teacher, and friend, died January 1, 2017. Patricia (Pat) was born on May 10, 1939, in Laurinburg, NC to the late Thomas Millard and Ethel Perkins Britt.
A dedicated teacher for forty-eight years, she received her B.S. Degree from Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, North Carolina, in Business Education and later her Master’s Degree also in Business Education. She taught for 30 years at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC and 20 years at Martin Community College in Williamston, NC.
Throughout her illustrious career, she was a member of numerous professional and teaching organizations, and is listed in Who’s Who Among College and University Professors, Who’s Who of American Women in Education, International Who’s Who in Education, International Book of Honors, Who’s Who in the Southeast, and Community Leaders of America.
She and her family were active in the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, where she served as Pianist, Church Clerk, and Sunday School teacher. Pat was also active in community and civic organizations and served as an officer at all levels.
She is survived by her daughter, Susanne and her husband Jeff of Hickory, NC and their two sons Jay and Preston; her son John and his wife Kimberly of Clayton, NC and their daughter Ashton; and her son David and his wife Kimberly of Macon, GA and their three children Katelyn, Grant, and Madison.
A memorial service will be held at Murfreesboro Baptist Church on Thursday, January 5 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Murfreesboro Baptist Church.
Pat will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, students, and all who knew her.
