New life for old high school

CREEKSVILLE – For over 50 years, a sprawling tract of land located just outside this Northampton County community was full of life.

Now, despite sitting dormant since last spring, the old Northampton County High School will once again welcome students looking to further their education.

Northampton County Public Schools officials have announced that the old high school will again be put to use starting next week when Roanoke-Chowan Community College opens a satellite campus.

“Roanoke-Chowan Community College is starting classes on Monday, Feb. 6 at the Creeksville campus site,” said Douglas Miller, Executive Director of Auxiliary Services for Northampton County Schools. “Classes will be located in the vocational building.”

Miller encouraged those interested in enrolling in college curriculum classes and/or Continuing Education classes to contact Roanoke-Chowan Community College at 252-862-1255 to register.

According to information provided by R-CCC officials, curriculum classes offered at the Creeksville campus include the following:

Math 171 (Pre Calculus) from 1:30 – 3:10 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;

History 132 (American History) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays;

English 111 (Writing and Inquiry) from 1-3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and

EMS (Emergency Management Services) from 11:20 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays.

Another curriculum class – Nurse Aide I – is being planned at this time.

In the area of Continuing Education, enrollment is open for Basic Skills / GED, Electric Cars, Human Resource Development, and a Fire Academy (open during the Spring and Summer months).

The Creeksville campus of Northampton County High School closed at the end of the 2015-16 academic year. The county’s public high school is now located in Gaston.
