White receives national award

AHOSKIE – Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center employee Weyling White has been named one of the 2017 Emerging Leaders in Healthcare Transformation.
White, an Ahoskie native, recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas where he received the award from the Communities Joined in Action (CJA), a private, non-profit membership organization of nearly 150 community health collaboratives.

The Emerging Leader in Healthcare Transformation Award is given to an early career professional, community leader or practitioner who has served in a management capacity for a minimum of five years and under 40 years of age. The recipient must have demonstrated a commitment to achieving health equity and engaging with community collaboratives/coalitions. This award is designed to recognize and retain talent in the community health industry and at the community level.
“Weyling represents the heart and soul of Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center’s mission and has committed his life’s work to improving the health status of our communities. He works diligently to understand the key issues for transformation and he does so with kindness, compassion, and a clear purpose,” said Kim Schwartz, RCCHC CEO.
White, a Hertford County High graduate received his formal education from Winston-Salem State University and The University of Phoenix. He also represents Eastern North Carolina on the State Care Share Health Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and is seen by his peers in the North Carolina Collaborative Network Committee as a true advocate for the underserved and most valuable populations.
White also currently serves as the founding Director of the Hertford County Health Maintenance Alliance (HHMA), which assists individuals without health insurance who need access to medical specialty services, patient navigation services, and community resources. Weyling has also guided Hertford Health Access (HHA) through the years as they have worked to provide increased healthcare services for more patients throughout the county.
“It’s an honor to receive this award. My commitment to the Roanoke-Chowan community runs deep since I decided to return here after college. I grew up witnessing the many factors that have worked to hold patients back which is the driving force in the work I do to improve the overall health of our community,” said White.
