American Legion baseball season opens

Still going strong after 90 years, American Legion baseball will open another season with three teams from the Roanoke-Chowan area beginning tonight (Thursday). Ahoskie Post-102’s junior team will trot out at Hertford County High School Field against the Albemarle Wildcats of Elizabeth City. Game time is 7 p.m. for this non-conference game.

Hertford County High players, seven from Gates County High, and one each from KIPP Pride, Bertie High, and Northeast Academy.
Windsor Post-37 will sponsor only a junior team for the second straight year. The Rebels will open on the road tomorrow night (Friday) at Perquimans High against the Hertford Pirates. Windsor will play six of its first seven games on the road before their home opener at Bertie High Field against Albemarle on Wednesday May 24 at 7 p.m. Bobby Harmon is once again Rebels’ head coach assisted by Darren Cottle.
After the regular season, the top-8 teams from Area-One will begin the playoffs in Manteo on July 5-8. The state championship series begins a week later in Mocksville on July 12-15.
Post 102’s senior American Legion team, coached by veteran Chris Towell, opens their season at Farmville Central High School on Tuesday, May 30 against Farmville Post 151 at 7 p.m.
