To the Editor:

On June ninth, at The Bob Martin Convention Center, I witnessed God’s mercy in a way that I had never really thought about. Having always believed that God gives special people to His special people, I witnessed this statement come to being that night.

The BLACK AND WHITE PROM, given by the owners of SOLID FOUNDATION, Mr. Vernell and Mrs. Cynthia Rodgers (service providers that are dedicated to the care of special needs adults that are dependent on others for their daily care) for the enjoyment of their clients, their families and friends, was what I call a five star affair.

The look of pure joy in their eyes, even if they weren’t able to express themselves, did not just shine, but beamed with happiness. We were given the chance to have a relaxing, enjoyable time seeing our loved ones as they communicated with the people who give them care each day.

Solid Foundation has locations in Bertie County, Hertford County and other towns in the Eastern North Carolina area for special needs adults. They consist of both learning programs and assisted living homes.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers and staff for your caring spirit. May you continue to inspire and be examples to all people, reminding us that “WE ARE THE VILLAGE THAT GOD HAS APPOINTED.”
