Currently, he also serves as a deacon, as well as the Sunday School Director, at Ross Baptist Church, and has done so for over 20 years.

During sport seasons, Highsmith spends a great deal of time couching his niece and nephew in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He takes pride in his role as an uncle to both Sawyer and Summer Mizelle.

Highsmith was born to Donnie and Dorothy Highsmith of Colerain.

Over the last 25 years, Highsmith has been faithfully dedicated to his work as Bertie County’s Environmental Health Specialist, and is staple member of this community.
