IVOR, VA – Evelyn Smith Jones, age 87, formerly of Ahoskie, passed away on July 19, 2017 at the Sentara Hospice House of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mrs. Jones was born on March 20, 1930 to Benjamin Gordon and Wertley Mae Hobbs Smith in Chowan County, NC. Evelyn spent her life taking care of her family. She spent countless hours farming with her husband.

Evelyn loved flowers of any type, especially roses. She was an avid gardener. Evelyn enjoyed making stuffed animals, mainly rabbits. She was very talented and enjoyed making things with her hands.

Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin K. Jones, and her two brothers, John “JB” Benjamin and Earl Gay Smith.

Evelyn is survived by her, son, Gordon Jones and wife Rebecca of Lakeland, FL; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Dilday of Ahoskie, NC; two grandsons, Reese Jones and wife Tiffany, and Andy Jones, both of Lakeland; three great-grandsons, Cameron, Carson, and Cameron Jones; one great-granddaughter, Emma Jones; one brother, Carroll Eugene “Gene” Smith and wife Kay of Rich Square, NC; one nephew, Robert Earl Dilday and wife Kimberly of Gatesville, NC; one niece, Denise Farmer of Kelford, NC; numerous great nieces and nephews and a special friend, Billy Reveal.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Greg Hurdle officiating.
