CHARLOTTE, NC – Mrs. Audrey Crump Williams, 90, went home to her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2017.
Mrs. Audrey Williams was born in Raleigh, N.C. on March 6, 1927 and moved to New Jersey early in her childhood. Shortly after graduating from New Jersey State College and beginning her lifelong education career, she married a young minister named Addison McDowell “Mack” Williams. The year was 1950. The young couple and their firstborn son moved to Ahoskie, N.C. in 1955 where Mrs. Williams taught music to generations of Hertford County families.
In 1986, she was elected to the Hertford County Board of Education where she served until 1998, in addition to serving on the North Carolina School Boards Association. Mrs. Williams also taught aspiring teachers at Chowan College and even returned to the primary classroom for three years during a teacher shortage at the turn of the century, teaching kindergarten until 2004.
In all, Mrs. Audrey Crump Williams dedicated over 55 years to the education of others. In 1999, Mrs. Williams was presented with a certificate of appreciation from Gov. James B. Hunt in recognition of her dedication and outstanding service to the state of North Carolina.
A lifelong learner herself, Mrs. Williams accrued continuing education credits from several universities, including Rutgers, Elizabeth City State, East Carolina, and Chapel Hill. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Lee-Ballard School of Pianoforte and the Ralph Ganci Music College, where she was presented in concert at Steinway Hall in New York City and had the great privilege of singing in the chamber rooms of Carnegie Hall.
She and her late husband, the beloved Rev. A. M. Williams, are survived by their five sons Addison Jr., Vernion, Daniel, Christian, and Erick Williams, as well as eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a large and loving extended family. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched, and her love will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
Services to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs. Audrey Crump Williams will be held on Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. She will be buried in a private ceremony at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Ahoskie next to her husband, Rev. Williams.
Reynolds Funeral Home of Ahoskie is handling the arrangements.
