PLEASANT HILL – It’s roughly 1,300 miles between the tiny Northampton County community of Pleasant Hill and the metro area of Houston, Texas.

Each of those miles will be paved with love later this week.

On Friday, Glover Construction Company of Pleasant Hill will send a truck loaded with personal and household supplies to Houston, where recovery efforts are in full swing following horrific flooding due to Hurricane Harvey.

“We are doing this just to help those in need,” said company spokesperson Catherine Glover.

She added that donations of items are already coming in and are currently being stored on pallets in their warehouse until the time arrives on Friday to load a tractor-trailer.

Anyone locally that is interested in participating is welcome to drop donations off at 4462 US 301 Highway in Pleasant Hill between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, and prior to 10 a.m. on Friday morning.

“We have been in contact with the Houston Food Bank and the truck will be delivering everything there,” Glover stated.

Items requested by the Houston Food Bank are:

Nonperishable food items (large gallon size cans of beans, potatoes, etc.);

Smaller canned items and other nonperishables that will go directly to shelter sites;

Baby food and diapers;

Toiletries and paper products;

Trash bags, cleaning items, dust masks;

Cases of bottled water; and

Gallons of distilled water.

“We are sorting items and categorizing them for easy acceptance in Houston here all week and will be filling the truck on Friday,” Glover said.
