JACKSON – Local artist Donte Boyd will visit the Northampton Memorial Library at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 to share his love of art and display some of his pieces.

Through art, Boyd says he wants to create art that lives much longer than he will that can speak to a global audience similar to how other artists have spoken to him.

“Inspiring people to find their own voice is essential for the art world, and I owe much to artists such as Gauguin, Schiele, Van Gogh and others who have inspired me to continue the visual communication,” Boyd said.

Boyd explained that his work is a documentation of how he views his surroundings, the people he admires, and the people he talks to.

“In a more generic and fantasized manner, my art documents an unfolding of life and curiosity about what exists through the eyes of an introverted, black male raised in a poor and rural community,” he noted. “In 20 years, I have changed numerous times and the art I produce has evolved significantly from being high school mimics of Rembrandt paintings to strange but “it gets the job done” adaptations of my ideas.”

Boyd mainly uses oil paint on canvas to communicate ideas, but he also experiments with charcoal, water color, clay, and fabric.
