AHOSKIE – Former Hertford County senior quarterback Lance Hunter has set a new school passing record having thrown for 5,018 yards in his two year prep career. He also set a new mark for touchdown passes with 54.

In 26 career games Hunter completed 327 passes in 601 attempts for 5,018 yards and a completion percentage of 54 percent, averaging over 15 yards per attempt and almost 190 yards per game. His 54 touchdowns average to 2.1 per game and he had only 11 career interceptions.

Hunter’s numbers broke the old Bears record set two years ago by Christian Folston of 4,846 total passing yards and 49 touchdowns. Folston is now at Shaw University.

Also, ex-Bears running back Kyeem Perry set a new school rushing record, finishing his four-year career with a total of 5,265 yards and 51 touchdowns, all on the ground. Perry broke Keith Roberson’s 1988 record of over 2,000 yards, though local statisticians and sports historians have been able to agree on an exact number. Roberson set the record as a senior on the 1988 team, the first year of HCHS following the consolidation of Ahoskie High School and Murfreesboro High School.
