JACKSON – A crime that occurred back in August in Pendleton has been solved.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith said that Darius Vinson of Pendleton was arrested at his residence on Jan. 1 by Deputy A. Johnson. Vinson was served with outstanding warrants for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny of motor vehicle parts, and injury to personal property.

Vinson was jailed on a $6,500 secured bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Jackson last week.

Sheriff Smith stated that the charges were the result of an investigation by NCSO Capt. Patrick Jacobs that began on Aug. 13 where a business in Pendleton reported a company vehicle had been broken into and items stolen. Vinson was developed as the suspect and warrants were drawn for his arrest.

Smith stated that he would like to thank Capt. Jacobs for working this case and gathering enough evidence to bring charges against the suspect for the breaking and entering of the vehicle.

“Anyone who is a victim of a breaking and entering or any crime is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office or their local agency,” Smith said.

Sheriff Smith also encourages citizens to please lock your vehicle doors when not occupied, remove keys and any other valuables that can be seen by others through windows.

“We need to be extra careful in securing our valuables and vehicles. We want citizens to feel safe and we will do everything in our effort to apprehend anyone responsible for careless acts of break-ins. We at the Sheriff’s Office take these cases very serious,” Smith concluded.
