WINDSOR – After scoring just eight runs the entire night on Wednesday, Windsor scored that many in just the first inning of baseball 24 hours later and cruised to an 18-2 Area-One conference junior American Legion win over the Albemarle Wildcats. Needless to say, the game was a short run-ruled five-inning affair with Post 37 coming out on top.

Alden Cottle was 2-for-3, drove in three runs, and got the pitching victory on the mound.

All of Windsor’s damage in the first inning came with two outs. Cottle and Brandon Beach walked before pinch-runner Lane Slachta was driven in on a double by Caleb Damo. Jake Raynor then walked to load the bases before Wood Trowell singled to centerfield scoring Beach. Austin Scott hit a hard grounder deep in the hole at shortstop to plate Damo and Raynor scored on a wild pitch. Courtesy runner Bryce Stevens scored on an RBI grounder by Cody Stalls, and Scott came home on a line drive base hit by Cameron Stevens. After Trenton White walked to re-load the bases, Cottle – in his second at-bat of the inning – slammed a single to left field, scoring Stalls and Cameron Stevens with the last two runs of the inning. The Rebels led 8-0 after one complete inning of baseball.

Windsor plated three more in the bottom of the second inning. One run scored on an RBI by Trowell, and two more on a double by White. It was now 11-0, Rebels.

Albemarle finally got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the third to trail 11-2.

An error, a sac-fly, a second RBI for Cottle, and two walks put five more runs on the board for Post 37 in the bottom of the frame that made it 16-2. The Rebels last two runs came in the bottom of the fourth on a pinch-hit RBI by Bryce Stevens and a groundout by Cameron Stevens. Windsor had secured the win by 16 runs after sitting down Albemarle in order in the top of the fifth.

Trowell also had two of Windsor’s one dozen hits to go with the other pair of safeties by Cottle. Bryce Stevens, Cameron Stevens, Jared Burden, White, Damo, Raynor, Scott, and Stalls had one hit apiece for Post 37.

Cottle went three innings for the win, while Stalls and Burden each pitched an inning for Post 37.

Windsor continues its domination of Area-One’s juniors action and have now posted 15 wins in a row after getting a forfeit win over Dare County on Friday (last night).

The Rebels’ final road game is Sunday (tomorrow) at Wilson Post 13. They will try to complete an unbeaten regular-season at home on Monday against Bear Grass at 7 p.m.
