AHOSKIE – Madie Delane Satterwhite departed her earthly life on July 27, 2018. Born in Hertford County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Satterwhite and Madie Freeman Satterwhite.
Madie joined New Ahoskie Baptist Church at an early age and was educated at Robert L. Vann High School and attended Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. She was employed by the first Hertford County ESEA Title 1 Program in 1966.
Upon leaving her hometown, she spent the remainder of her adult life in Brooklyn, New York. There she joined the Belthel Baptist Church and pursued her education further at Medgar Evers College in
Brooklyn and New York University. She received a Masters Degree in Special Education and graduate work in Administration.
A lover of children, Madie taught several years in public education. She ended her career after 25 years of extended employment at Public School 46 in Brooklyn, New- York.
She returned to Ahoskie and remained until ill health departed her life.
She was preceded in expiration by siblings Mary Lewis Watkins, Cullen Satterwhite, Ellen Askew, Fannie M. Saunders, Calvin Lee Satterwhite, Corbell Satterwhite, and Alexander Satterwhite, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories of four sisters: Elizabeth S. DeLoatche of Raleigh, NC, Avoyne S. Mikula of Brooklyn, New York, Christine S. McCullough (Charles) of Ahoskie, NC and Shirley S. Thompson of Colerain, NC.
A (going-away) service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at New Ahoskie Baptist Church. Graveside services will take place in the Satterwhite Cemetery.
Hunter’s Funeral Home in Ahoskie has been entrusted with arrangements.
