WINDSOR – Bertie County Sheriff John Holley has announced the arrest of more suspects stemming from a Sept. 8 home invasion-armed robbery case.

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, Elliott Grimes and Kellye Rascoe were arrested in Martin County related to the home invasion case. The suspects transported back to Bertie.

“On the 25th, after continuously investigating the case, two additional arrests were made. Afterwhich, Sgt. Alvin Hendrix went to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and transported the two back to Bertie County to be processed for their charges,” Holley stated.

Grimes has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary, safecracking, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and larceny from the person, along with other charges related to the incident. Grimes is believed to be the boyfriend of Kellye Rascoe. Grimes received a bond of $1,000,000 and has a court appearance for later this week.

Kellye Rascoe is charged with felony accessory after-the-fact. She is the mother of Jarkeese Rascoe, one of the suspects in the invasion-robbery who was captured in Camden County last week. Kellye Rascoe received a $50,000 bond and a court date for her has also been set for this week.

Following her arrest, Kellye Rascoe made bail and was released on bond.

The Sheriff said on Saturday, Sept. 8, multiple suspects forcibly entered a home on Tony’s Lane, off Governor’s Road, where they held an elderly homeowner at gunpoint and removed items from the home.

After responses by deputies of the Sheriff’s Office into the incident, Holley said his officers began an investigation.

Tuesday, Sept. 11, Sheriff’s Detective Ronald Rascoe obtained warrants on: Jarkeese Rascoe of Cedar Landing Road, Brittany Vanhorn of Old US 17, Salish Cooper of Cooper Hill Road, and Marlin Smallwood, all of Windsor.

On Sept. 20, Vanhorn and Rascoe were arrested in Camden after the pair had spent more than a week eluding arrest by moving from place to place.

“The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division will continue to review the facts of the case to identify everyone involved,” Holley noted at the time. “There will be more arrests related to this case in the coming days.”

Vanhorn and Rascoe are charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary, safecracking, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and larceny from the person, along with other charges related to the incident.

Cooper was arrested within several days of the break-in while Smallwood was taken into custody on Sept. 18. Both were held in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail and charged with the same offenses listed for Vanhorn and Rascoe except for the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

“I have not closed this case,” Holley added. “And I anticipate more arrests as we continue the investigation.”
