John T. Rawls

AHOSKIE, NC – John Thomas Rawls, age 84, passed away November 6, 2018 at the Accordius Health and Rehabilitation at Creekside Care of Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Rawls was born on June 26, 1934 to Hercy G. Rawls and Dessie Blowe Rawls in Hertford County, NC. John worked with C&O Railroad, dumping coal cars on ships for transport to Europe. He enjoyed his work and saving money. John spent time away from work in his home and other times with his special friend, Sallie Ann Barber.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Felix Rawls; sister, Carrie Rawls Morris; and special friend, Sallie Ann Barber.

John is survived by a brother, Jessie Raymond Rawls and wife Shirley of Yorktown, VA; niece, Arlene Rawls Raiford of Ahoskie; and two nephews, Keith Rawls and wife Debbie of Colerain, NC, and Richard Rawls and wife Jo of Yorktown; along with numerous great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating.
