In Gatesvillle, quarterback Jawan Riddick passed for 220 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing score to lead the Red Barons to a 42-18 win over South Creek.

Gates County (10-2 overall and seeded third in the Class 1A state play-offs) travels to meet second-seeded Pamlico County next Friday (Nov. 30) in the Eastern semifinals. Pamlico advanced on Friday night by knocking off Southside, 55-6.

In other Friday contests involving Roanoke-Chowan area teams, #5 Hertford County pulled off a minor upset on the road, defeating #4 West Craven, 48-22. The Bears (now 7-5 overall) will travel to #1 Thomasville Ledford next Friday. Ledford advanced by blanking Roanoke Rapids, 44-0.

Meanwhile, Northampton County, the top-ranked team in the Class 1A Eastern bracket, defeated Washington County, 24-6. The Jaguars (11-1 overall) will host Rosewood High School next Friday. Rosewood, the #4 seed, edged North Edgecombe, 35-34, to advance.

In other games of regional interest, Edenton routed East Carteret, 60-0, in the Class 1AA play-offs; and Northeastern (12-0 and the top seed in the Class 2A bracket) blanked Wilson Beddingfield, 28-0.
