AHOSKIE – Organizers are currently in the planning stages to bring back a favorite event with a renewed purpose and need volunteers.

Ahoskie Fall Fling 19 is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2019. Yes, that date is indeed many months away, but in order to make the event one that attracts interest both locally and regionally, plans must be laid out well in advance.

“Ahoskie Heritage Days was originally intended to focus and promote our downtown, and local businesses, along with special events in celebration of Ahoskie’s history, heritage, and community,” said John Fritz, co-chair of Fall Fling 19. “We are now preparing to bring the next version of that event back to downtown Ahoskie and looking for volunteers who have are interested in being a part of this exciting new event.”

Fritz noted there was a Fall Fling 18. However, Mother Nature wasn’t very cooperative.

“(Fellow co-chair) Amy (Braswell) did a great job pulling together the event for Fall Fling 18; she deserves kudos for a job well done. It was too bad the rain caused the original date to be pushed out, which caused vendor cancellations,” Fritz noted.

Braswell, Executive Vice President of the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, will again be involved in the planning of Fall Fling 19 as she will serve as co-chair of the planning committee.

Fritz and Braswell are seeking volunteers to help coordinate the following events:

Art Show at the Episcopal Church;

An event at The Gallery Theatre;

Involvement with downtown merchants;

Soliciting arts and crafts vendors;

Downtown beautification;

Marketing / finance;

Food venues / food trucks;

Advertising / promotion / radio / newspaper / flyers;

Website / E-Mail / Communications support;

Special events to include children activities, car show, motorcycle clubs; and a haunted house;

Yard sales in the downtown business district;

Entertainment/bands;

Local food establishments – “Taste of Ahoskie”; and

Involving local civic clubs.

“We are having our next committee meeting in January,” said Fritz. “If you have an initial interest in volunteering, have additional questions, and want to attend the next meeting, please forward your e-mail address or to contact either myself (John Fritz) or Amy Braswell. Our contact information is provided below. We will send you a meeting invite.

“We want to present this special Ahoskie event to a larger audience than our four-county area. To be successful we need a team to help us support this event,” Fritz concluded.
