AHOSKIE – A lone suspect entered Ahoskie’s Pizza Hut Tuesday night with the intent to commit a robbery, but things apparently did not go as planned.
According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, a male, his face covered by a mask, came inside the restaurant at around 8:15 p.m.
“He told the employees that this was a robbery and he had a weapon, but did not show one,” Fitzhugh said. “One of the employees handed two bank bags to the suspect.”
However, neither bag contained money.
“(APD) Officers, joined by Lt. Jeremy Roberts, found the empty bags and the mask,” Fitzhugh said.
When asked to provide the location of where those items were found, Fitzhugh said that information cannot be released at this time.
“Those items, and the location where they were found, are part of the evidence of this crime,” Fitzhugh noted.
One witness to the attempted robbery said they were in the restaurant at the time, adding there were customers, to include children, at one table celebrating a birthday.
The Police Chief added no one was injured in the incident and the investigation continues.
