One individual is detained for questioning and two others are on the run following an armed robbery of an Ahoskie business this morning (Thursday).
The robbery occurred at 11:34 a.m. at the Red Room, a business located at 102 East Main Street. No one was reportedly injured during the robbery.
The name of the person detained was not released as the investigation continues, according to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh.
Law enforcement agencies from several jurisdictions later surrounded a block of woods south of Ahoskie, just across the Bertie County line on Jernigan Swamp Road.
“We have personnel in the woods looking for two suspects who fled from a vehicle that wrecked on Jernigan Swamp (Road),” said Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes who was at the scene. “There are two K9’s, one from Ahoskie Police and one from the Northampton Sheriff’s Office, that have joined the search, as well as a drone unit from the Bertie Sheriff’s Office flying overhead.”
It is believed that the car involved in the single vehicle wreck carried the suspects wanted in the armed robbery. One was detained at the accident scene.
Other than the Bertie County portion of Jernigan Swamp Road, law enforcement vehicles were seen either patrolling or sitting stationary along Center Grove Road and Williford Road.
Agencies involved in the search include the Ahoskie Police, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Bertie Sheriff’s Office, Vidant Police, and North Carolina Highway Patrol.
