Curfew enacted in Hertford County; storm shelters open Thursday

Hertford County government officials have announced a curfew will be in place due to the impacts expected from Hurricane Dorian.
The county’s curfew will start at 12 midnight on Thursday and end at 6 a.m. Friday. If necessary, the same curfew will be enforced on Friday night/Saturday morning.
Additionally, the Town of Ahoskie has declared a State of Emergency, to include a curfew. Ahoskie’s curfew is overnight, beginning Thursday, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. the following morning. It is in effect until rescinded by the Mayor.
Hertford County will also open shelters for those seeking refuge from the hurricane. Those shelters will open at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hertford County High School in Ahoskie and Hertford County Middle School in Murfreesboro. The shelter at the high school is pet friendly. Those bringing their pets should have the means necessary to offer them food and water.
Individuals using either shelter as asked to bring their necessary items (blankets, pillows, etc.).
All public schools in Hertford County will release students at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. All schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday. Scheduled activities for Thursday and Friday at all schools will be cancelled.
The varsity football game between Hertford County High School and Rocky Mount High School, scheduled for Friday evening, has been moved to Saturday. Kick-off at Bear Stadium is 6 p.m.
