AHOSKIE, NC – Emily Cornelia Jernigan Marra, age 82, of Clarendon Road, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Marra was born on April 27, 1937 to John William and Edna Turner Jernigan in Ahoskie, NC. Emily was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a graduate of Ahoskie High School, then attended Lee Memorial and received her LPN license. She was a nurse by trade and spent many hours taking care of others. Emily was a member of Ahoskie First Baptist Church.

She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her friends. Anthony loved Emily dearly and could often be heard singing “You Are My Sunshine” to her. Emily was known for her unique sense of direction, could get to her friends’ houses easily but never knew the street names or house numbers. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Along with her parents, Emily was preceded in death by a sister, Lalla Wyatt.

Emily is survived by her loving husband, Anthony; two sons, Anthony Marra, Jr. of Ahoskie, and Robert Marra and wife Ericka of Raleigh, and grandson, Trent Marra of Raleigh.

Due to the circumstances with COVID-19 restrictions, Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC will be open for friends to pay their respects and sign the register book on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, from noon until 7:00 p.m.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Dr. Trey Gilliam officiating.
