NORFOLK, VA – Virginia Hobbs White, 95, beloved wife/heavenly wife to Ralph Joseph White Jr. and a resident of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, January 20, 2021.
She was born September 25, 1925, in Northampton County, NC, to the late Pearl Harris Hobbs and Moses Edward Hobbs. She was raised with her brother Edward Hobbs in Northampton County, NC, then moved to Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Maury High School in 1943 and was considered one of the quietest students her teachers had ever taught.
Virginia was loved by so many and always willing to open her heart to help out whenever possible. Ginny, as Ralph called her, loved camping with her family and friends. In her early years, even though she couldn’t swim, she liked to boat and waterski. She loved gardening, even if she didn’t know what she was planting, and enjoyed a cold beer after cutting the grass. She lived for her family, as they did for her. She was best known as Grandma ‘Sweetie’ and ‘GG’ by her great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Joseph White Jr.; her son, Ralph Joseph White III; and her brother, Edward Moses Hobbs Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are sons, James Edward (Susan), Gary Stephen (Tammy), Douglas Edward, and daughter/grand-daughter Christie Lynn Harris. Grandchildren are James Edward White Jr., Melissa White Poland, Connor JB White; and great-grandchildren are: Ashley R. White, Gregory F. Harris, and Hayden L. Harris.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends this summer at Buggs Island Lake, John H. Kerr Dam.
