The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has placed two more alleged drug dealers behind bars.

An on-going investigation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Shanika Williams on Tuesday and 21-year-old Marcus Gilliam a day later.

“We are continuing our efforts to keep drugs off the streets of Bertie County,” Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said. “These two arrests are just part of that overall effort.”

On Tuesday, Bertie County Narcotics Officer Brian Edmondson and members of the Windsor Police Department picked up Williams, who resides on South Watts Street in Williamston, at Martin Enterprises in Williamston.

Williams was charged with three counts of trafficking heroin and one count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place to keep a controlled substance. She was placed under a $25,000 secured bond and incarcerated at Bertie-Martin Regional Jail.

A day later, Edmondson and the WPD officers made another arrest, this time taking Gilliam into custody at his home on Angle Lane in Windsor.

He was charged with two counts of the sell and delivery of a Schedule II narcotic and placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $6,000 secured bond.

“We are continuing to receive tips about illegal drugs and those tips are leading to a lot of arrests,” Sheriff Holley said. “I certainly encourage citizens to continue calling us with their information. We don’t need the names, just the information.”
