JACKSON – Criminal charges keep growing against two local men alleged to be involved in a rash of residential break-ins in more than one county.

On Friday of last week, Northampton County warrants were served by Hertford County Sheriff’s deputies on 19-year-old Amonzia Spivey of Windsor and 21-year-old Jalik Lassiter of Woodland.

These warrants were obtained March 12 from an investigation by Northampton Sheriff’s Lt. Alan Roye that began on March 9 for the breaking and entering of a residence in the Conway area.

Roye charged both men with felony breaking & entering, conspiracy to commit breaking & entering, and larceny after breaking & entering.

Lassiter received a $100,000 secured bond and a court date scheduled for March 18. Spivey received a $10,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on March 16.

These two men were arrested March 9 by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office after fleeing on foot from a residence they had broken into on NC 561 near Tri-County Airport.

Hertford County Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the Ahoskie Police Department, located the duo in the woods after a short search. Lassiter was in possession of a Glock .40 caliber handgun at the time of his arrest.

For that crime, Lassiter was charged with possession of firearm by a felon, injury to personal property, injury to real property, felony conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and felony safe cracking. He was placed in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. Spivey was jailed under a $20,000 secured bond for felony conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony safe cracking, injury to personal property, and injury to real property.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith commended Lt. Roye for “swiftly working this case and gathering enough evidence to bring charges against these subjects involved in recent breaking and entering and larceny of this [Northampton] residence.”

Sheriff Smith stated that he would like to thank the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this joint investigative effort.

“We will work together with and assist all agencies local and far to investigate any crimes,” Smith said.

Smith added that based on the number of stolen items found in the possession of the two men, the investigation continues and more charges are expected in the coming weeks.
