MURFREESBORO – After having previously received a grant to do a sewer assessment, the Murfreesboro Town Council took steps at their meeting here on Sept. 8 to proceed with a water assessment as well.

The council unanimously approved a resolution to seek a state grant to perform an Asset Inventory and Assessment on the town’s water system.

“They’ve already done the sewer lines. This’ll be a grant where they map all the water lines,” explained Town Administrator Carolyn Brown.

Brown also stated the grant would be for $150,000.

According to the resolution, the town would be responsible for covering any additional costs if that amount does not cover everything. But Brown told the News Herald that additional costs hadn’t been discussed yet, and the engineers expect the grant would be approved since there was no issue getting approval for the sewer assessment grant.

The estimated timeframe for the work to be done is three months.

Council member Sarah Wallace motioned to approve the resolution, and Berna Stephens provided the second. The motion passed without any further discussion.
